Grammar #21: Quoted and Reported Speech (due Wednesday)

Part 1:
Watch the following video.

Write 3 sentences that you hear in quoted speech. There are many ways to do this. Please vary your style and word choice to make it interesting. In other words, do not write all of the quotes in the same format.

For instance,
"I heard you the first time," Ricky said to Lucy, "but what language is it?"

Part 2:
Reply to your own comment. WHAT I WANT YOU TO DO  is to rewrite your original sentence in reported (indirect) speech.

For instance,
Ricky told Lucy that he had heard her the first time but that he didn't know what language it was.

    "Now Lucy, you're not going to teach your child that way,aren't you?" Ricky Said.
    " Well honey that is very nice though" Ricky said " but usual you have no logical explanation to the way you're doing it "
    Ricky said," what? what does matter with the way I talk?"

    Ricky said that Lucy had very nice though but she had no logical explanation to the way she was doing it.
    Ricky wanted to know if the way he talked was matter.

  2. Lucy : Well, I haven’t told you this before, dear, but you speak with a slight accent.
    Lucy said, “Well, I hadn’t told you this before, dear, but you speak with the slight accent.”

    Ricky : You can understand me, can’t you?
    “You can understand me, can’t you?” Ricky asked.

    Lucy : Well, now, yes I’ve learned to listen with an accent.
    “Well, now, yes. I had learned to listen with an accent,” Lucy said.

    Lucy told Ricky that she hadn’t told him before, but he spoke with the slice accent.
    Ricky wanted to know if she could understand him.
    Lucy said that she had learned to listen what the accent was.

  4. "funny thing, when I spoke correctly don't even recognize, do you?" Lucy said.

    Ricky said: "Now Lucy, you're not going to teach our child that way,aren't you?"

    "Ricky promise me something," Lucy said to Ricky, "promise me that until our child has at least nineteen or twenty years old you won't talk to him."

    Lucy said that when she spoke correct English even Ricky did not recognize it.

    Ricky said to Lucy that she wasn't going to teach their child in that way.

    Lucy said to Ricky that promised her that until their child had at least nineteen or twenty years old he wouldn't talk to him.
